  • Dr. Jo and the team at Converge have helped me regain stability and strength in my shoulder that I have not had in 6 years since a torn labrum surgery. Accompanied with dry needling, they have quickly been able to help me get back to what I love doing with confidence.
I am extremely grateful for the wealth of knowledge they hold and share so willingly at Converge!

  • I thought that I herniated a disk while climbing and the pain was unbearable. The next morning Amy did a virtual consultation with me, diagnosed the problem, and gave me ONE simple exercise to do. Within a matter of hours the pain had been cut in half and by the next day it was barely noticeable. Amy saved me a trip to urgent care/ER and a specialist. Could not recommend Converge Physical Therapy more!

  • Amy and Jo have helped me so much with finding the root of chronic hand pain I've had for years and I feel like I finally have relief in a way where it's much more manageable. I had tried everything (hand therapy, cortisone shots, diagnostic testing, acupuncture, etc.) and was feeling pretty hopeless until I was referred to Converge. They are so kind, caring, knowledgeable, and holistic in their care. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

  • Converge is the best! I was hesitant at first to pay cash because I have insurance and my other PT is free. But after trying both, it was honestly not worth going to the other one anymore. My wife and I both got so much personal attention from Jo and the Converge team. They really know what they are doing and they care.

  • I've been to 4 other physical therapists in the salt lake area, and Jo at Converge PT has been able the only one to find the root of all my physical ailments. She's exceptionally thorough, provides very simple yet effective exercises/stretches to do at home that work around your lifestyle, and takes your athletic goals very seriously. She makes each assessment a teachable moment, and she has extra training in needling and massage. Whether it's tendonitis, nerve pain, ligament damage, post-surgery rehab, she makes sure you are progressing before you leave the office.

  • Go see Amy. She’s in a league of her own. I had tried everything under the sun to alleviate my back and shoulder pain. I made progress but never felt like I was getting to the heart of the issue. Then I met Amy. She actually listens to you, takes a personal interest, and asks the right questions. I was already making progress after my first session, and five appointments later, my pain has reduced by 75 percent. I’m sleeping better, moving better, and just living better. In addition to physical manipulation and exercises, Amy helps you develop a positive mindset to combat your pain.

  • I came to Dr. Jo with some really severe, disturbing pain in the outside of my wrist. It was affecting my climbing, skiing, and everyday life. I'm so glad I didn't wait forever to see someone about it and stepped into Converge. Dr. Jo did an AMAZING job listening, giving me manageable exercises and the proof is in the pudding. I stuck with it for a month and I am PAIN FREE. I'm so glad I came to Converge for my injury, would highly recommend for athletes who want care from people that understand your sport

  • After working with Amy for a couple of months, I can confidently say she helped me get my life back. Had I not gone to her, I would still be laying in the fetal position on the side of bike trails hating my life (haha). She is kind, patient and extremely intelligent. I will be forever grateful for everything she taught me

  • trigger point dry needling

Dry needling (DN) is a technique physical therapists use to treat pain and movement impairments by inserting a needle into the target muscle group. The physical therapist inserts a "dry" needle, one without medication or injection to target trigger points. Trigger points (TrP) are taut bands of muscle that are tender to the touch and often refer pain to other areas of the body. Targeting these areas via DN can help release tension and pain, improve blood flow, and restore range of motion and function. We believe the practice of DN will enable our patients to get better faster and prevent future disabilities.

  • dry needling vs acupuncture

Although the same type of needle is used, dry needling is not acupuncture. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and is guided by a different philosophy which targets meridian or energy points throughout the body. DN is a part of modern Western medicine and targets TrPs which are shown to directly correlate with pain and dysfunction.

  • what to expect

    Technique

There are many different DN techniques. Here at Converge, Dr. Amy and Dr. Jo are trained through Myopain Seminars, which offers courses in 25+ countries and was the first to bring DN to the US in 1997. We believe the technique taught by Myopain Seminars is the most specific and effective technique.

    Is DN painful?

When a TrP is needled, it is common for the muscle to twitch and produce a cramping sensation. It is also common for the needle to produce an achey or pinchy sensation.

Muscle soreness following DN can last up to 24 hours, depending on the size of the area targeted, the muscle group and personal factors. Relief can be achieved following one needling session and your PT will use their discretion to decide how often an area should be needled depending on your needs and response to the technique.

  • You can receive DN as part of any physical therapy visit. If you are already a patient, inquire about this service on your next visit. You do not need a consult prior to DN, but your therapist will likely spend some time getting to know your specific needs on the first visit to ensure you get the most benefit from this service.
